Buick V6 into a 3rd gen firebird

Postby KrisW » Sun Jul 31, 2005 1:26 pm

Okay, here goes........
I like to put Buick engines where they don't belong.
I have a front wheel drive buick 3.8 engine from a 1985 Park Avenue. I think it should bolt to the T5 bellhousing that used to mate to a 2.8 V6. I'm not sure what flywheel to run. If I buy one for a 78 and up even fire V6 is it going to fit inside of the 2.8's bellhousing? Do I need to do something custom? I am currently overseas with the troops and my car is back in Indiana, so I'm trying to get a jump on this thing. I want to go ahead and order parts and send them home, but I want to get the right stuff so that I can spend my home time fixing my '88 firebird. Also, I'm not sure, but would anyone know if rear wheel drive mounts will bolt to a front drive block? It's been a while since I saw the side of a front drive buick block. Thanks alot. And don't worry, if things have to be modified, oh well!! It will still happen!

I think the only problem is the starter is on the wrong side. But it can be fixed.

Yeah, I pretty much figured that, but I thought I'd ask. I know the 4th gen f-cars with 3800s use the same block, front or rear drive, but the mounts don't fit third gen crossmembers. Oh, well!!

Custom is better, anyway!!

The 96+ Gen II 3.8s are suppose to be better.

I don't want to mess the series 2 yet. There is too much computer re-wiring. The older stuff is easier for me to configure to the ECM. Next time, who knows?
